Defining Past Life Regression Therapy

Regression is simply bringing to the conscious mind events that happened in the past.  A simple example is if someone asks you what you had for dinner last night, as you try to recall, you are doing regression.

Past Life means those lifetimes which you experienced prior to your current incarnation.

Therapy simply means a modality of healing practice, usually focused on some specific issues brought to the attention of the therapist by the client.

Past Life Regression Therapy explores the psychological, physical and spiritual unresolved residues from our present and past lives.  This approach allows the client to understand the patterns in this life and how they were created in a past event, and with that understanding, enables the client to see beyond the personality-contained illusion and confusion of this life alone.  Regression therapy reaches further and heals deeper at the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels than most other therapeutic approaches.  Back to Top...

Benefits of using Past Life Regression Therapy

Possible benefits with Past Life Regression experiences are vast and personal; many would in the least report “a beautiful experience”.  Of course there are many practical uses other than feeling good, and the following outlines a classic few:

Clearing and Healing past traumas that are still causing Physical, Psychological and Relationship problems in Current Life

This is probably the most widely realized benefit.  Many people are suffering from medically inexplicable physical ailments that have no apparent causes, or have unfounded emotional issues on some things or towards some others.  These may have been rooted in past lives, and by identifying their origin, healing can begin.

Gaining understanding on the origin of unhelpful Attitudes and Beliefs, thereby releasing yourself from their effects

Related to the above, some of us carry beliefs and attitudes that may not be helpful for our work and life; for example, we are overly perfectionist, we feel unreasonably responsible for certain work or people, we have some obsessive traits.  Whilst these may be commonly addressed by more conventional psychotherapy means, it is possible that Past Life Regression would provide another helpful perspective to the causes and therefore enhances the healing process.

Helping to remember what knowledge and talents you have accumulated in the past that you may wish to once again express

Our souls carry all our past energies, including our previous work and knowledge.  This may be manifested in you feeling drawn to some type of work or exhibiting certain talents.  It is most affirming to be discovering that there is indeed some truth to your inner knowing that you should be pursuing certain life path, or you may end up ascertaining that your purpose this time around is to go after new learning.  Back to Top...

Procedure

Different practitioners would have different styles and preferences, generally speaking, the following are classic stages you will probably be taken through:

  • Initial interview and introduction before proper session begins
  • Using hypnosis technique, you will be helped to relax and enter a hypnotic trance
  • Depending on what you then experience, the practitioner will be guiding you through the identified past life; the practitioner may ask you to move forwards or backwards in time, asking you questions at the same time to help clarify your experience
  • If appropriate, you may be taken to the “higher mind” realm, or the spirit realm, for working through certain emotions, issues or unfinished business.  This is where much of the direct healing takes place.
  • Under the guidance of the practitioner, you are brought out of your trance state and back to being fully awake.

Again, respective practitioners would have their own styles and preferences, and the initial interview and introduction stage would be a good time to clarify any concerns.  Back to Top...

Common Questions

What if I don’t believe in Past Life?

You don’t need to believe in the existence of past lives or even hypnosis; as long as you keep an open mind and willing to have a go, you can then let your experience convince you, or otherwise.  It’s like gravity, it works for you whether you believe in it or not.  There are, however, plenty of research materials and evidence backing up this field of practice. (see Further Reading below)

I cannot be hypnotized

This is one of the commonest concerns!  Hypnosis simply means focused concentration, and many don’t realize that they experience hypnosis regularly: when you are deeply immersed watching TV or a movie, you are in a hypnotic state, when you are working on something you are passionate about and time flies and you forget to eat or drink, you are in a state of hypnosis, when you are driving and you arrive at your destination but you cannot recall the journey, you have been in hypnosis.  It is true that different people would naturally achieve different trance depth, but only a light trance is necessary for tapping into past lives, and with practice, you can actually achieve deeper trance.  There are a certain types of people, and circumstances, where hypnosis is not recommended, but this does not apply to majority of people and the practitioner will be able to advise.

I have heard of Hypnotherapy, what’s the difference?

Hypnotherapy also makes use of hypnosis, and it is for certain therapeutic interventions such as confidence problems, stopping smoking, weight loss, stress management, etc.  Past Life Regression uses hypnosis to help the client access their past lives.  In Hypnotherapy, quite often the therapist would instill suggestions and affirmations to effect the healing, whereas in Past Life Regression, the role of the therapist is to facilitate the journey and act as a guide and navigator for the client.

Would I lose control?

You will always be in control and conscious of all your actions, nobody can make you do or say anything you don’t want.  The conscious mind remains active and provides you with all the awareness and filtering mechanisms you have always had; it’s just that under hypnosis, other dimensions or aspects of the mind that are normally less active become more prominent.  At the end of the session, you will probably find that you can remember your experiences really well.

How long is the session and how many times do I need to do it?

Session duration is not always so predictable, but you should set aside at least 2 hours for each session.  For first time visit, the practitioner will be spending some time at the beginning collecting information about yourself, such as your family history, hobbies, personal beliefs, medical history and so on.  This is so that the practitioner can ascertain how best to work with you, and more importantly, to help you form objectives and desired outcomes for the session.  It is entirely up to you how many sessions you would like to go on to have, each session would normally be a standalone and be productive by itself.  However, you may discover its benefits and return for other issues, or simply that it is a pleasant experience to repeat.  It is also possible that for a specific issue you are looking to clear, there have been more than one pertinent lifetime, in which case you may find that subsequent sessions may point to the same issue again, albeit the background and scenarios are very different.  For example, let’s say the issue you are working on appears to be learning to let go rather than risk greater damages by hanging on stubbornly: you may visit a past life where you were a farmer who lost all your harvest to storm because you did not heed the warning to cut loss by harvesting earlier; in another session, you may have been a military leader who lost your men because you steadfastly refused to retreat and wrongly chose to stay your ground instead.  Although the two scenarios are very different, you may get the distinct feeling that they were designed for you to experience the same lesson, and is probably what you are once again facing in this current lifetime.  When clear intent is given for the session, the higher mind would help you “find” scenarios that are the most helpful for your current issues.

Which religion does Past Life Regression come under?

Past Life regression is a process that taps into dimensions of the mind that are not normally prominent in our daily lives; whilst it is fair to say that certain religious beliefs exclude the possibility of past lives, it would not be appropriate to say that the Past Life Regression approach falls within any religious parameter.

How many past lives have I had

This is difficult to know for sure, but on average, every one of us has had in the region of several hundred, depending on the maturity level of the soul.  So chances are we have all lived in different ages, been different races, had a wide range of life experiences and accumulated much knowledge along the way.  Knowing and believing this can really provide a different perspective on life!  However, knowing this is not as useful as understanding that our purpose is simply to experience certain learning and lessons at each of our incarnated life on Earth.  Past Life Regression is simply an approach to help us understand our “arrangements” better.

How do I know it’s real and not imagined?

When we are in the realm of deep mind work, the distinction between real and imagined becomes less important; in any case, imagination also comes from our mind, and there may be a good basis for that imagination to take place during your session.  Sometimes, the emotions you experience and the scenes you see are so real, you will have no doubt you were once there!  In the end, it is more important to extract insights and learning from the experience, than to question its validity.

How do I know it’s mine and not someone else’s past life?

Much like the question above on whether it’s real or imagined, it is more important to focus on the insights and learning from the scenario that to question its validity.  Although rare, it is possible that sometimes the higher mind may tap into someone else’s past life, but this would only happen if that particular past life is directly relevant and beneficial to your current issue.

Do I have to have a problem to be using this?

No, some people just want to experience past life regression out of curiosity.  More often than not, however, they will end up gaining some insights into certain current life issues.  Indeed, the practitioner would usually guide the client to make links between the past life experienced to some learning pertinent to their current life.

Will I find out about something that is harmful to me?

It is possible that you may come across traumatic scenes and events during your “travel” in past lives;  oftentimes, these are the critical learning moments that bring the greatest realizations and insights, hence the most profound opportunities for healing too.  You will be guided by the practitioner to view these scenes with detached emotions, so you are not re-living them as such.  You will also be reminded that these things happened in your past lives, and your current life is a completely separate experience.  As mentioned before, you remain fully conscious and in control at all times; you can open your eyes, ask the practitioner to stop the session at any time, or even simply get up and walk out if you wish!  There are no side effects to regression, and the worst that can happen during a session is you fall asleep!
